Recommendations:
A right-angle drill will be necessary for installation with the engine in the vehicle.
A torque wrench with 250 ft*lb capability will be required to torque the crankshaft retaining bolt.
What is crank pinning and why is it necessary?
- The crank pulley on the Viper is basically just held in place to the crankshaft by a press fit and the torque of the fastener/bolt. This means the pulley can spin on the crank snout, and cause damage, especially with hard driving or higher engine torque than factory.
- Pinning it is inexpensive insurance against this expensive failure from happening. The two pins go in a hole drilled so that half of the pin is in the crank snout, and the other half is in the pulley, keeping the crank and pulley aligned even under extreme shock loading (like launching your car on slicks, or an imperfect rev-match)
